More About This Item
The idea of this CD pack was first conceived by Sasan Fatemi, associate professor of music at Tehran University. It is based on his extensive research on compositional rules or lack thereof, in the music of Iran and its neighbors in greater Middle East and Central Asia. His conclusion has been, and it has been written about in detail in Mahoor Musical Quarterly, that since the mid 16th century, Iranian music has gradually lost touch with its neighbors and as such the old rules and styles of compositions common among them lost as well. And thus we have the low quality of Persian Tasnif of today. This 2 CD pack album is thus the result of collaboration of Fatemi and 3 other composers( Payam Jahanmani, Ehsan Zabihi Far and Sa'id Kurd Mafi) in producing music while having Fatemi's points in mind. The accompanying booklets explain the process in more detail. They also have descriptions for each piece and suggested ways of listening.
